Kretikos White Wine of Crete
When the weather gets hot, and I start thinking about the beach, I get nostalgic for Greece, and really who wouldn't? So maybe I won't make it to Greece this summer however I can at least drink a glass of Greek wine to settle my longing. The 2008 Kretikos white wine is produced in Crete, the southernmost island of Greece in the Mediterranean. The wine did not specify the particular white grape varietal used however a white grape commonly used in Crete is Assyrtiko. This wine was sealed with an artificial cork and had an alcohol level of 12.0%.
This white wine was a rich golden color with green hues. On the nose were aromas of pine, honeysuckle, white blossoms, syrupy apricot juice, overripe peaches, soft peach skins, wet stone minerality, cinnamon, and green grass. The palate offered pine needles, lemon rind, perfume, honeysuckle, fresh ripe apricots, pear skins, rosemary, thyme, lime zest, and under-ripe peaches. Overall, a delightful white wine that took back to memories of laying on the Greek beach and watching the sun set.
